Karijini National Park (via Paraburdoo & Tom Price) - 11th - 14th May

We passed through a couple of mining towns on our way to Karjini NP. Our overnight stay at Paraburdoo was a great night... it was Rio Tinto's annual family picnic day and we were invited! Everything was covered by Rio Tinto (all the food, drinks and rides for the kids), and they finished the night off with a fire works display and a concert.

The next day saw us hit 10,000 kms for the trip. We called in at Tom Price and had a look at the mine. It was a massive operation and everything was covered in orange dust.

We finally made it to Karijini NP, set up camp and went for a walk to Dales Gorge. It was a steep climb down the gorge, however well worth it once we had a swim in Fortescue Falls and Fern Pool.

We also had a walk and saw Circular Pool Lookout and Three Ways Lookout.

Early start the next day to have a look at the Gorges on the other side of Karijini NP. The road was rough however well worth the trip. We were able to see...

  • Mt Bruce which looks out over Marrandoo Mine Site
  • Oxer Lookout
  • Hancock Gorge (Ampitheatre, Spider Walk & Kermit's Pool) - A MUST DO!!!
  • Jeffre Gorge
  • Knox Gorge
Oxer Lookout - it is hard to show how deep this Gorge really is

We were not able to get the camera all the way down to Kermit's Pool, however it was one of the best walks we have done.

On the last day we went to Circular Pool and walked all the way back up Dales Gorge to Fern Pool.

Karijini NP is incredible and we could have stayed another 2 or 3 days.

Next stop Broome!
