Denham & Monkey Mia

Our plan was to check into Monkey Mia Resort and stay there for 3- 4 days, however there were no vacancies for the first 2 nights. We were lucky enough to get a spot at Denham Caravan Park, and had a couple of quite days.

Trip to Ocean World was interesting, and the kids loved seeing the sharks being fed. Unfortunately the school holidays had just finished and with the sharks being fed every 20 minutes for the last 2 weeks, there were not very hungry.

We got into Monky Mia on 1st May and were able to get a great site on the beach. Our view from the front door was fantastic and we saw dolphins swimming up and down the beach all day. At one stage Georgie was in the water having a swim and 3 dolphins came up and had a play with her.

We had a sail on the "Shotover" and Sue put her hand up to help raise the sails - once a yachtie, always a yachtie!

We were hoping to spot a Dugong, however the water was now too cold and they were all moving north.

One of the other ships in the Bay was the "Leeuwin II". This is a 3 mast ship which is used to educate school children on how to sail, team building and leadership. The centre mast is 31 metres tall, and apparently there is a message at the top known only to those who have climbed the mast.

The dolphin experience was awesome. Approx 120 people lined the beach and 10 dolphins came into the beach for a feed. The staff at the resort only feed 5 of the older females as the males are more aggressive and they want to make sure they do not lose the ability to feed themselves.

They only pick 4 or 5 people at a feeding experience to feed the dolphins, and Sue and Gus were lucky enough to get picked. We got a great photo of Sue, however just as Gus got picked, a little American tourist jumped in front of us and the dolphin and we were not able to get a photo - bugger!

We went for another sail on the "Shotover". This was a relaxing sunset cruise - very nice.

It was a cold sunset cruise, so Gus had to find a way to keep warm!

We caught up with another 2 families at Monkey Mia who had kids the same age, so it was nice for the kids to have somebody to play with again.

Simon, Tanya, Gracie and Saffi from Narrabeen, and Tom, Lisa, Tam, Steph and Teagan from Torque in Melbourne.

Monkey Mia was tour favourite for all and we are now off to Coral Bay for some snorkelling.  As are our new found friends, so we'll be in for some fun ahead!
