Cape Range National Park - Exmouth (7th - 9th May) ***Whale Shark Swim***

Trip to Exmouth saw us pass thousands of termite nest along the side of the road - they were huge!

We got to Exmouth and were lucky enough to get a spot for 2 nights at Karrajong Camping Ground in Cape Range National Park

Our first night was another wet one with huge winds and lots of rain again. It was forecast, however according to the locals, this sort of rain never happens up here. We spent most of the next morning drying all the bed linen and mattresses, however nothing like the 16 campers next door to us who had their tents float away. One of the campers even moved into the toilet area with his tent to try and stay dry.

All the roads had closed and we were stuck at the camp site for the day, so the kids were able to catch up on some homework.

At 5.00pm cocktails on the second night we were able to catch the sunset from our camping site and it was stunning to see the sun go down over the water.

Friday 9th April was a big day - we booked into a Whale Shark swim with 3 Islands Whale Shark Dive. It was a once in a life time experience and we all had a fantastic day. We saw 2 huge Whale Sharks (6m and 8m), and had the opportunity for 2 snorkels in the reef and 5 swims with the sharks.

Unfortunately there was a big swell and GI spent a lot of time looking over the port side of the boat, however not before he had his encounter with the Whale Sharks.
About to board the boat for our Whale Dive
Looking back at the boat ramp... look at all the people waiting to get on their boat!
Our crew on the boat was Josh (Capt), Nat, Roxy, Tyler and MJ, and they were all fantastic. Here are some of the professional shots taken by MJ of us during the day...

Anybody looking to do a swim like this in Exmouth in the future, give "3 Islands" a call - they were fantastic.

On the way back we saw a fisherman who had just arrived back with a huge Spanish Mackerel (we think). He had no way of eating it all himself and offered us some. We gratefully accepted and had our first seafood for the tour.
