Sydney to Adelaide...

After months of preparation, SWAGG left Sydney on Monday 31st March 2014, moments before midday. We were just glad the van made it out of Blytheswood Ave, Sue had filled the van with enough supplies to last an eternity.

After 6 hours in the car, we had our first night at Wagga Wagga, and the locals would have thought we were professionals! We were able to back the caravan into position on the first attempt and unhooked without any mishaps. We also left the car under the caravans tow ball for a speedy exit in the morning - is that cheating?
Gus found moths the size of his hand and was haunted by grasshoppers stalking him wherever he went.

We hit the road early on Tuesday and headed for Mildura. We didn't quite make it and ended up spending the night in Victoria on the beautiful Murray River. Just out of Robinvale we camped on the edge of the river and had the whole place to ourselves. We we're a little freaked out by the regular gunshots echoing through the valley, Georgie thought she was being followed, we later found out that they are regulated shots fired to scare the animals away from the orchards to protect the fruit. Someone kindly left their houseboat moored ashore for us to launch ourselves into the Murray for our first river shower.

You don't get any closer to the water than this!

On the way to Robinvale we passed a property called Hell's Gate (approx 25 km's east of Balranald). The name is strange enough, however the huge fire which was seen for miles as we approached the property was incredible.

Due to the fire we weren't able to take a photo of the gate at the front of the property, so just picture this with huge flames and smoke behind it, and be glad we were this side of it.

We also had some fun with the local cattle. With no food in the paddocks, 100's of cows roamed across in front of us to find greener pastures. This was on the A20 in between Narrandera and Hay, where the paddocks where so flat the kids thought they could see to the end of the earth.

Wednesday we drove from Robinvale, after a quick dip in the Murray into Adelaide. Another long day in the car with straight stretches of road as far as the eye can see.

After 2 nights roughing it with no shower, the girls voted to have a night in a caravan park with electricity, showers and a pool. We found a great spot on the water called Semaphore with a 2km bike track along the beach and great sand dunes to jump down. The beaches don't match Sydney's, with loads of weed but the sand was clean, pure white and so soft.

We are off to explore the town of Adelaide this afternoon and will be heading to Flinders Rangers on Friday. We'll spend a couple of nights at Wilpena Pound before making our way back south to Streaky Bay, SA. If anyone has a favourite spot around the Streaky Bay area, shoot us an email.
