Before leaving Alice Springs we had to see the "Transport Hall of Fame". This was a massive museum of Trucks and different forms of transport. Will and GI were able to spend the afternoon climbing through all the different Kenwood trucks - oh yeah!
On camp site at Alice was the local Show Ground, and the kids were able to feed and play with the horses and 6 new bunnies.
Once in Queensland we passed through Mt Isa, and then up to Karumba which is a fishing town on the Gulf of Carpentaria.
On the way we stop at the Burke & Wills Roadhouse. I was hoping this may be a museum dedicated to the explorers, however the only stuff they had was beer coolers and tea towels.
Driving through Normanton we saw a the Big Croc. This is an accurate artists impression of the largest recorded salt water crocodile captured in the world. It measured 8.63 meters and was shot dead in 1957.

Our next stop was Mount Surprise and the Lava Tubes. The lava tubes are in the
Undara Volcanic National Park and cannot be found anywhere else in the world. We saw 3 of the 50 odd tunnels in the National Park, with some as long as 1.5 km's in length.
Sue's birthday had arrived unexpectedly on 4th July (we were having enough trouble trying to remember what day of the week it was!) so we decided to try and find her a Aqua Marine Gem at O'Briens Creek. We purchased our fossicking licence and headed approx 50 km's out of town to were the gems are... unfortunately we fossick like we fish, and no present for Sue this year!

After an overnight stay in Atherton, and a birthday dinner at the local pub, we headed to Cairns for some fun in the sun. The drive into Cairns was spectacular and we stopped in at Curtain Fig Tree, Lake Eacham, and Lake Barrine.
